California produces more than 400 commodities, supplying nearly half of the vegetables and over three-quarters of the country's fruits and nuts. For the 2024 crop year, the top valued fresh produce commodities were almonds at US$5.66 billion, grapes at US$5.64 billion, lettuce at US$3.67 billion, strawberries at US$3.46 billion, pistachios at US$2.05 billion, tomatoes at US$1.64 billion, and carrots at US$1.57 billion.
In 2024, California's farms and ranches generated US$61.2 billion in cash receipts, a 3.6% increase compared with the previous year.
California agricultural exports totaled US$22.4 billion in 2023, down 5.9% from 2022. Among the leading exports were almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. Export data is compiled by the University of California, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.
Organic production in California continues to expand. Organic product sales increased by 21.7%, from US$9.7 billion in 2019 to US$11.8 billion in 2023. Organic cultivation covers 1.78 million acres across the state. California remains the only U.S. state with a National Organic Program (NOP)–authorized state organic program.
