Armenia and Georgia expand grape cultivation cooperation with FAO support

Armenia and Georgia, two of the world's oldest winemaking countries, are working together to modernize grape cultivation with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

FAO recently organized a study visit to Georgia for Armenian wine sector specialists. The program focused on two priorities for Armenia: Developing certified vineyards and setting up a digital registration system for vineyards and wineries.

In Georgia, the delegation visited Kakheti and Tbilisi, where they learned about vineyard certification, advanced monitoring tools, and climate-resilient grape varieties. At the National Wine Agency, experts demonstrated a digital registry that tracks vineyards and production in real time, helping to ensure strict quality control.

"This visit gave us valuable insights," said Zaruhi Muradyan, Director of Armenia's Wine and Vine Foundation. "Georgia's experience shows how integrated systems can ensure quality from vineyard to market. These lessons will guide us as we build our national registry."
