Moroccan watermelon exports to the European Union increased by more than 53% between January and June, according to trade data from Eurostat. This places Morocco ahead of Spain as the EU's largest supplier of the fruit.
During the first half of the year, Morocco shipped over 130,000 tons of watermelons to EU markets, compared with around 85,000 tons in the same period of the previous year. The increase follows a decline in 2024, marking a rebound in volumes.
Spain and France were the main destinations for Moroccan watermelons, where demand rises during the summer season.
The average export price was €0.91 per kilogram, or about US$0.98/kg, keeping Moroccan produce competitive in European markets.
