José Jesús de Haro, CEO of Transnoita:

"We will grow in groupage transport with our new platforms in Irun and Lyon"

Spain's exports have experienced significant growth in recent years, and fruit and vegetable shipments have been contributing to this trend. Specialization is a good strategy for differentiation in a highly competitive sector. This is the case of a company from Murcia that decided to fill a market niche with groupage deliveries to the Rungis wholesale market.

"We have achieved significant growth thanks to our specialization in groupage deliveries to Rungis. In this way, we avoid transhipment in Perpignan, which normally worsens the service due to the increase in costs and the possibility of the product losing quality when brought in and out of the cold chambers," says José Jesús de Haro, CEO of Transnoita.

In the short term, Transnoita's growth will rely on two major initiatives. Firstly, "we will open a logistics center in Irun from which we will supply Rungis. This will make things easier for the drivers, as it will shorten their routes. There will be one for delivery in Irun, and another for delivery in Paris."

Secondly, "we are going to take a leap forward by establishing ourselves in the Lyon MIN. This will help improve our deliveries to France by avoiding the extra costs involved in going through Perpignan. We are not going in alone; we have teamed up with a French transport company to embark on this new chapter."

Since 2013, "we have gone from loading just a few groupage trucks to Rungis to doing 100 a week. In our family, we have always been devoted to transport, but we have made rapid progress by working together with this company, as there are not many firms that are exclusively dedicated to this route with deliveries from all over Spain," says De Haro.

The company's activity is uninterrupted, working with products like stone fruit, melon, tomato, and citrus. "We are active all year round in a sector that is not at all easy, and doing groupage, which is even more challenging. To overcome these difficulties, we have our own staff in Rungis to deal with unfair claims. This gives peace of mind to our customers," says De Haro.

Better work-family balance to try to deal with staff shortages
Faced with the lack of drivers, the CEO says that they deal with it by offering a good work-family balance. "Our goal is for drivers to be away from home for as short a time as possible. We have them resting every 5 days, more or less."

"We have some women drivers, and they are impeccable in their performance. We would like to attract more of these professionals. We believe that by promoting a good work-life balance and offering more breaks, we can be attractive to them," says De Haro.

"Thus, we continue to focus on groupage deliveries to France and on improving the drivers' quality of life as the basis of our growth strategy. I started in this business when I was 19 years old, and I can't imagine handing the company over to some investment fund. This sector can be tough at times. For example, after the fuel price hike when Russia invaded Ukraine, we were only saved by state aid, but pressing on was worth it," says the manager.
