Carl Gottmann (CGH) starts Brazilian melon season

"Brazilian melon season shows good prospects"

This week, the first Brazilian melons for Carl Gottmann arrived at the port of Rotterdam. "With weekly arrivals of both watermelons and yellow melons, in several varieties, the season, which runs until week 10 of 2026, promises to be very good."

"The outlook is excellent," says Patrick Walter, responsible for imports at Carl Gottmann. "In Brazil, weather conditions were ideal this growing season, so we can expect excellent quality melons. The volume is in line with last year."

The market is also positive in terms of price. "Seedless watermelons are currently quoted at around €1 per kilo, while yellow melons are between €10.50 and €11 per box," Patrick Walter explains. "Although there are still Spanish melons in the market at the moment, that supply will decrease quickly. We expect most retailers to switch to overseas melons in week 36–37."

Long-term partnership with Potiguar
Gottmann recently signed a five-year agreement with Brazilian supplier Potiguar for the exclusive supply of melons in the European market. "After three successful seasons, we are now working together further with great confidence. We are particularly satisfied with the quality, reliability, and continuity this partner offers us," said Patrick Walter.

Year-round delivery program
After the Brazilian season, Carl Gottmann's melon supply does not stop. "We seamlessly switch to our own production in Costa Rica and Panama, allowing us to supply our customers with melons year-round," concludes Patrick Walter.
