Russia resumes imports of Georgian watermelons after suspension

Russia has restarted imports of Georgian watermelons following a suspension that began in 2023, according to customs data cited by Russian media.

In June–July 2025, shipments reached $455,600, with July alone accounting for $415,800, the level recorded before the trade halt. In 2023, exports to Russia totaled only $11,900 before being interrupted.

Overall, Georgian watermelon exports this year hit a four-year high. From January to July 2025, the country exported 981.6 tonnes, worth $491,300. For comparison, exports were almost absent in 2024, stood at $35,300 in 2023, $131,500 in 2022, and $1.017 million in 2021, when volumes reached 2,931 tonnes.

Current trade data show Russia as the main buyer: 847.3 tonnes worth $455,500 in the first seven months of 2025. Other markets include Belarus with 86.3 tonnes ($23,800), and Armenia with 48 tonnes ($12,000).
