Kyrgyzstan significantly increased its 2025 harvest of vegetables, potatoes, and melons, according to official data.
By late August, farmers had collected:
- 650,200 tonnes of vegetables (+102,000 tonnes year-on-year),
- 273,800 tonnes of potatoes(+31,100 tonnes),
- 281,000 tonnes of melons (+87,100 tonnes).
Melon crops led the growth, with 96% of fields harvested and an average yield of 24.6 t/ha, marking a record result.
The Ministry of Agriculture also reported a world record in tomato yields. Farmers in Jayyl district, Chuy region, harvested 120 tonnes per hectare, surpassing the previous global benchmark of 90 t/ha typically recorded in North America. Tomatoes of the Heinz and Esesem varieties were cultivated on 270 hectares.
Most of the tomato harvest is directed to processing for sauces, ketchup, and related products, while part of the volume is allocated for export.
Modern agricultural technologies were used in cultivation, including an automated drip irrigation system. A specialized tomato harvester imported from Italy was employed for harvesting, the Ministry of Agriculture noted.
