"The foodservice market really requires a different approach than the regular export of fresh produce products," says Niko Pennelli of Frisco, the Venlo-based specialist in the Italian market. "We notice different trends in our sales market every year. This year, demand has been very strong for various specialty tomatoes, with prices many times higher per kilo than for traditional vine tomatoes."
"Jet listens very carefully to provide each customer with a bespoke service, tailored to the colour, size, and flavour of the tomatoes they order. For that, you really need expertise, and the rest of the organisation also needs to understand what is expected of them. So it is definitely not just box-shifting, as is sometimes too easily said," explains Niko. "And this year we also have to make an extra effort to serve all customers in the various markets daily, because the number of available trucks is often minimal."
"Even though local cultivation in Italy was less affected by extreme weather conditions this year, we still managed to achieve another substantial sales growth over the past period. This is also thanks to the broadening of our product range, which enables us to offer a complete foodservice package to even more customers. 'One-stop shopping' for the demanding customer in the foodservice segment!"
