Moldovan plums 80% of harvest ready for export to EU

Dorvalandro SRL, located in Mîndresti village, Telenești district, is continuing exports of plums to the European Union after a season marked by frosts and hailstorms. According to managing director Adrian Caldare, more than 80% of the harvest has been preserved, and the fruit quality allows deliveries to foreign markets.

"We manage 45 hectares of plum orchards, including super-intensive plantations with new varieties. Although the weather put us to the test, we managed to preserve around 80% of the crop. The fruit quality complies with European requirements, which gives us confidence to continue exports," said Caldare.

The company has been exporting plums to the EU since 2017, with Poland and Germany as its main destinations, followed by the Baltic States, Romania, and Balkan countries. "Traditionally, Poland and Germany remain our core markets. This year, about 70% of our production will go to the European Union, with the remaining 30% to CIS markets. Buyer interest depends on the dynamics of European supply — whenever there is a shortfall, Moldovan plums are in very high demand," Caldare added.

Dorvalandro SRL has invested in modern infrastructure to meet importer requirements. "We operate sorting and packing lines that let us sort and pack the fruit more quickly and efficiently. Tasks that used to take ten hours are now completed in just six. We pack in neutral cardboard boxes and comply with all GlobalG.A.P. requirements, which helps us stay competitive on the European market," Caldare noted.

During the peak season, the company employs around 120 workers to maintain the pace of exports. In addition to plums, Dorvalandro also produces cherries, apricots, and sour cherries, though plums remain the company's core focus. The medium-term strategy includes expanding orchards and planting new plum and cherry varieties to maintain its position among Moldova's main exporters.
