Cristian Parra, Paclife:

Advanced technology and comprehensive advice to prolong fruit freshness

Maintaining quality during longer transits has become a major challenge for Chilean exports. The solution depends not only on the type of packaging but also on combining high-performance preservation methods, specialized technical support, and sustainable materials to ensure the fruit arrives at its destination in top condition.

In this context, Paclife has chosen a comprehensive approach that integrates innovative packaging, detailed analysis of the logistics chain, and tailored solutions. "Data tells more than a story," stated Cristian Parra, the company's commercial director, emphasizing the importance of making decisions based on real measurements rather than perceptions.

One of the most important pillars of Paclife's strategy is personalized on-site support. The company conducts a thorough diagnosis from the orchard to the end customer, identifying vulnerable points related to temperature, humidity, and product handling. "People believe the cold chain is always maintained, but sometimes when we look into things, we discover that's not always the case," Parra stated.

An example with an international client illustrates this. After noticing that the relative humidity at reception was too low, the company made a simple adjustment that prevented the loss of half a kilo of fruit per pallet every three hours. "Small changes lead to huge savings," he said.

"The technology developed by Paclife has enabled the preservation of blueberries for up to 150 days, with minimal weight loss (less than 0.7%), and excellent firmness and pruina. Our containers also help extend the post-harvest life of early cherries to 45 days, which is quite significant, as 90% of Chilean production is sent to China. We observe greener pedicels and up to 35% less browning in complex varieties," Parra stressed.

Paclife currently uses recyclable materials made from polyethylene and polypropylene, certified for food contact. "However, the company has already validated compostable and biodegradable prototypes. We are ready for when the industry transitions toward more environmentally sustainable solutions," Parra added.

The company is more than just a packaging manufacturer. It is a strategic partner for producers and exporters. "Our goal is not just to innovate, but to offer real solutions that reduce food waste and provide a better return for our customers," Parra stressed.
