In Poland, wholesale plum prices have been steadily declining since late August, while retail prices remain stuck at last year's levels.
According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS), this year's harvest is estimated at 127,000 tons, up from 95,000 tons in 2024. Although not exceptional compared to 2020–2023 volumes, the increase is already exerting strong downward pressure on wholesale prices.
The early-season Cacanska Lepotica variety, now giving way to later cultivars, has dropped to 2.00–2.60 PLN/kg (€0.46–€0.60), a 16% decrease compared to the end of the 2024 season.
Later, large-fruited varieties such as Amers, Top Hit, and Jubileum, which have just entered the market, also recorded sharp declines of 20–25% last week. Prices are now at 2.50–3.50 PLN/kg (€0.59–€0.82), around 12% lower than a year ago.
So far, the pressure is only visible in wholesale. In retail, Polish plums remain much more expensive. Supermarkets continue to sell domestic fruit above 6 PLN/kg (€1.40), with premium lots often exceeding 7 PLN/kg (€1.63), nearly three times the wholesale price. On the shelves, it looks as if time has stood still, with prices still reflecting last August's levels.
