Blossom Hill Packing, one of the United States' apricot growers, has introduced a linerless pack format as part of its packaging developments. The new packs feature lids printed by Reflex Group, paired with TrayCycle™ trays supplied by Paper, Pulp & Film and printed by Superior Litho. These fibre-based trays were used during the California apricot season at major retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

The project has been supported by the Ravenwood Nobac 5000 applicator, which applies the linerless lids at a rate of more than 50 packs per minute. The automation is designed to improve consistency in application while reducing labour requirements.
The TrayCycle trays are fibre-based alternatives to plastic clamshells, designed for produce, prepared foods, and foodservice. They are recyclable and free from PFAS, offering a different option to plastic packaging.

According to Paper, Pulp & Film, the custom window design in the trays allows for product visibility at retail. The use of linerless labelling removes the need for backing paper, which reduces waste and simplifies recycling. The system also provides space for full-surface branding on packaging.
