The OP Granfrutta Zani brand offers two plum and nectarine options: Viulèt and Gilda

Branded stone fruit is no longer a risk but a growing opportunity

The two brands, Viulèt and Gilda by producers' organization OP Granfrutta Zani, are now available in several large-scale retail chains in Italy and abroad. These brands are focused on improving the quality of European plums and nectarines.

"These are two top-tier products," explains Italian sales manager Antonio Zani. "They are capable of surprising consumers with their organoleptic quality. They are among the top brands with all the qualifications to be in the premium category. After years of selecting and planting the best fruits, the Viulèt plums and Gilda nectarines really stand out."

Viulèt
"The Viulèt brand was created to highlight three varieties that stand out for their sweetness," Zani continues. The first variety has a Brix range of 20 to 25 and bicolored skin. The other two have dark skin and range from 16 to 22 °Brix."

"The campaign began at the end of July and will continue until around 10 September. We are offering these European plums in 600-gram baskets. They are priced slightly higher than classic European plums, and the strong market demand thus far proves us right."

Gilda
Granfrutta Zani is now halfway through its Gilda brand nectarine campaign. "We harvest six varieties within 40 days, and the fruit will be available until late September," Zani says. "The flesh starts white and red, deepening to a richer red as the season progresses. These nectarines are very aromatic, and our farmers know how to harvest them at the perfect point of ripeness, which is not easy. We offer them in trays of four fruits, size A or AA."

The present situation with the stone fruit season
"As for the stone fruit market, we've had some ups and downs," the manager continues. Overall, though, we can't complain. Perhaps we could have expected a higher price for the apricots, considering the low quantities on the market. The average prices for stone fruits were in line with expectations."
