Availability of good quality apples was difficult to find when the Polish apple season kicked off, but since then, the situation has gotten better, says Mohamed Marawan, owner of Polish apple exporter Sarafruit: "The Polish apple season starts with the Gala variety, and at the beginning it was very hard to find good quality apples. This was due to the impact the frosts had on the apples or the damage to the apples caused by hail. Thankfully, later on, the situation improved as multiple other farms were okay in terms of their quality. Overall, apple volumes have improved, with better availability for all of the varieties this season."

With more and more varieties being harvested, export volumes will increase from next week, Marawan explains. "The current demand is mostly for Royal Gala apples, but we also see demand for Golden varieties as well as the Red Prince apples. Every week we're exporting good volumes already. In the coming week, more varieties will become available, as farmers continue to harvest Golden, Red Prince, Red Delicious, and Idared. This means export volumes will also increase."
As Egypt has always been a main focus for the Polish apple exporter, Marawan travelled to the country in preparation for the current season: "I've recently visited Egypt and we managed to sign the contract agreements with the supermarket there. We were also able to meet several of our clients, as well as open up some new possibilities with newer clients. They've seemed very willing to work with us, which is always a positive. Of course, we welcome any new clients for cooperation as we open our new facility in Bialystok," he concludes.
