Nepal vegetable prices drop 18% as fruit costs rise

In the first month of FY 2025/26, Nepal's fresh produce prices showed contrasting movements within the Food and Beverages index, which stood at 103.42.

Vegetables recorded the sharpest change with a -18.56% year-on-year decline. This drop was most visible in urban markets where vegetable price fluctuations directly affect consumer budgets. Fruit prices, in contrast, rose by 3.01%, adding pressure on household spending.

The sharp fall in vegetables has temporarily reduced food costs for consumers, but rising fruit and cereal prices indicate that overall structural inflation in the fresh produce sector remains present. Seasonal conditions and domestic supply constraints continue to influence pricing dynamics.
