New automated system launched for fruit packaging

Sorma Group will present its new P&P-800 pick and pack system at Fruit Attraction 2025 (30 September – 2 October, Hall 03, Stand 3D22). The system has been developed to improve efficiency and consistency in fruit packaging.

Automated packaging system
The P&P-800 has been designed and manufactured by Sorma Ibérica, the Spanish subsidiary of the group. The system is fully automated and is able to pick up either loose or pre-packed fruit from boxes and place each item into individual pockets facing the same direction.

A smart camera system manages the process in real time. One camera detects the incoming fruit, a second controls rotation, and a third 3D camera ensures correct placement. This allows fruit to be aligned with the same orientation and positioned to achieve a uniform presentation.

Integration of artificial intelligence
The machine runs on a Linux-based operating system and incorporates Sormatech-AI, artificial intelligence developed by Sorma Group. The software identifies the type of fruit, the pocket size, and the box configuration to adjust the process with minimal manual input.

System controls and interface
The P&P-800 is operated via a belt with an integrated encoder, a compact electrical panel, and a 15.6" touchscreen monitor. Operators can choose positioning modes such as stem to side, stem down, or coloured side on display. Sensors regulate the fruit flow to avoid interruptions or misalignments during operation.
