Hort Innovation consumer insights platform evolves into Hort IQ

Hort Innovation has expanded its consumer insights platform, Hort IQ, by integrating Harvest to Home, creating a single source for fresh produce category performance and purchasing trends. The platform is designed for growers, marketers, and wholesalers to monitor market dynamics and adapt production and sales strategies.

Hort IQ provides real-time data on retail performance and consumer behaviour. The integration allows users to track emerging trends in categories such as cucumbers and capsicums, and apply insights to adjust planting schedules, refine promotions, or manage supply strategies.

Data from the latest retail and purchasing dashboard shows that apple dollar sales increased by 5.5% nationally in the 52 weeks ending 13 July 2025, with a 1.0% rise in retail volumes. Apples were purchased by 84.5% of households over the year and accounted for 16.3% of total retail fruit volume.

In vegetables, retail volumes declined by 0.3% compared with the previous year. Leafy Asian vegetables recorded the strongest retail volume growth, up 11.2%, highlighting consumer demand in this segment.

Brett Fifield, Chief Executive Officer of Hort Innovation, said, "The transition from the old Harvest to Home into our revamped retail and purchasing dashboard on Hort IQ is more than a platform upgrade; it's a leap forward in how we deliver value to the industry." He added, "We've created a space where data becomes actionable, helping stakeholders uncover opportunities, respond to market shifts, and connect more meaningfully with consumers."

Hort IQ uses datasets from Hort Innovation's data partnership with NIQ. According to the organisation, the integration of Harvest to Home into Hort IQ provides deeper access to consumer and retail data through a streamlined interface.

The platform enables users to identify emerging trends, such as the growth in cucumber and capsicum consumption, as well as categories under pressure, such as fresh beans. Hort IQ is positioned as a tool to support growers and marketers in applying consumer insights to production planning and category strategy.
