DP World has announced the renewal of a long-term contract with Hapag-Lloyd for container operations at the Port of Santos. The agreement secures the partnership for the next 10 years, providing continuity in handling operations.
DP World stated that the renewal is aligned with its capacity expansion plans at the terminal, which will support increased volumes from Hapag-Lloyd as well as services for other carriers. The company emphasized that the expansion will strengthen its position as an independent and competitive operator in Santos.
For Hapag-Lloyd, the agreement provides a framework for expanding its operations in Brazil, offering predictability and efficiency for its business in the region.
Work is already underway on the expansion of DP World's berth at Santos, located on the left bank of the port. The project, launched on August 21, will extend the quay by 190 meters, bringing the total length to 1,290 meters. Completion is scheduled for August 2026.
The expansion will allow the terminal to accommodate larger container vessels and includes the purchase of new container-handling equipment. Once completed, the terminal's annual handling capacity is expected to reach 1.7 million TEUs, reinforcing its role in Brazil's container logistics sector.
