MV Koru departs Tauranga loaded with kiwifruit

A ceremony was held at Port of Tauranga Limited at the end of last week before the newest vessel of long-term shipping partner Fresh Carriers Co., Ltd. set off on its maiden voyage carrying Zespri kiwifruit.

The MV Koru departed the port on Friday, bound for Japan with 5,000 tons of Zespri kiwifruit on board.

The event was attended by Zespri Board Chairman Nathan Flowerday and his wife Amanda, who has taken on the role of godmother of the ship, along with other representatives from Zespri and Fresh Carriers Co. President Toshiyuki Koga.

The Koru is the latest addition to FCC's modern fleet, designed to carry New Zealand-grown kiwifruit to Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea. It has the capacity to transport more than two million trays of kiwifruit.
