Bultec - provider of packaging solutions for the horticultural sector (Italy)

Guaranteed minimum weight: The right technology is essential to control giveaway

In recent years, the demand for tray packaging solutions with a guaranteed minimum weight has grown significantly. This growth has prompted many fruit companies to invest in systems that combine production efficiency and precision. Regarding this issue, Ruggero Ricci, the owner of Bulltec, says, "We would like to highlight our processing plants for tray-packaged products with a guaranteed minimum weight, bearing in mind what has already been achieved."

"We have installed several vegetable and grape tomato packaging plants in Sicily, so it is our reference point for this technology. Companies that pack up to 30 trays per day should install our technology to improve their packaging efficiency and prevent weight loss with each tray."

In the Campania region, Bulltec installed a double-line facility that processes and packages up to 60 pallets of peppers per day. "At the moment, our technology is being used by companies that need to pack up to one pallet per day. "We are among the few who have developed and mastered a processing system that ensures a guaranteed minimum weight for products packaged in trays."

"As for cluster tomatoes, our client can use a single system to process different product types, optimize the number of operators on the line, and ensure that the weight excess per tray remains consistently below 3% during the entire operation."

Ricci continues, "When it comes to vegetable processing, we can achieve a production rate of 40-45 baskets per minute. For cluster tomatoes, we handle around 35-40 packs per minute. Production performance naturally varies depending on the product type, recipe, number of fruits required, and product quality."

The essential concept is to have a product supply belt for each scale. For example, if the machine has 12 scales, there are always around 80 fruits available for processing. Operators ensure those belts are continuously loaded. This is the only way to achieve the aforementioned production levels.

Ricci concludes, "We have expanded our range of technical solutions according to the requirements of each packing center. Today, we supply machines and processing plants with daily production capacities ranging from a few pallets to one pallet of packed goods."
