How can tomatoes be packaged efficiently, ergonomically, and with the least amount of space, while maintaining high productivity and minimizing waste? TopControl has developed a custom solution for a vegetable processing company.
"We developed a tailor-made, three-tier packaging line as an Intelligent Packaging Solution (IPS)," explained Top Control CEO Michael Saltuari. "We redesigned the entire process, from the layout of the line to the logistics and ergonomics of the workstations. We need to reduce manual handling and increase structure. We also need to clearly define work areas. The vertical solution ensures a smooth material flow and optimal use of space."

The line makes use of the vertical space across three levels. The top level is for returning empty boxes. The middle level has ergonomic product feed stations. The bottom level is for automatically transporting packed products. This setup reduces workflow interference, shortens routes, and ensures a streamlined process.

Saltuari points out the numerous advantages of the line concept. "Efficient line planning with minimum space requirements is achieved by using ergonomic workstations equipped with cassette holders, LED lighting, and bottle holders." The line is easy to use and doesn't require instructions, which is great for staff from different countries. The technology can easily be integrated into existing processes, and work areas are well organized.
Saltuari concludes, "This all leads to higher packaging speeds, less physical strain on staff, and reduced product losses thanks to accurate weighing."
