Costa Rican health authorities have authorized the import of Brazil nuts from Brazil, both shelled and unshelled, according to the Brazilian government.
In 2024, Brazil exported more than US$272 million in agricultural products to Costa Rica. Main categories included cereals, flours, preparations, and the soybean complex.
Brazil nuts are harvested in the Amazon region by traditional communities and are recognized internationally for their nutritional profile. The product is considered one of the main items of Amazonian sociobiodiversity. Its production contributes to income generation and is associated with regional development and forest conservation.
With the inclusion of Brazil nuts, Brazilian agribusiness has reached 443 new export opportunities across 72 destinations since the start of the current administration.
The announcement follows coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
