The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) reported U.S. pistachio exports at 18,600 metric tons in July 2025. This was 3,100 mt fewer than June 2025 (-14%), 2,900 mt fewer than July 2024 (-14%), but 1,100 mt above the five-year average (+6%) for the month. The next release will cover August 2025, for which the five-year average is 19,700 mt.
The top five destinations in July accounted for 52% of exports. Germany received 3,500 mt, India 2,700 mt, Spain 1,300 mt, Italy 1,200 mt, and Belgium 1,100 mt.
For the crop year to date (September–July), U.S. exports total 312,900 mt. This is 79,500 mt fewer year-on-year (-20%) but 50,900 mt higher (+19%) than the five-year average. The 2023/24 crop year remains the strongest on record for pistachio exports, making comparisons difficult. With pistachio output alternating between "on-years" and "off-years," 2024/25 is an "off-year," and volumes were not expected to reach last year's level. Despite the slower pace, demand is reported to remain strong and continues to support prices.
Current USDA balance sheet estimates, last updated in February 2025, project exports at 360,000 mt for the 2024/25 marketing year. To reach this target, exporters will need to ship 47,100 mt in August.
