Cambodia has made its first shipment of nuts and dried fruit to Australia, with local agribusiness Royal Trust Trading Co., Ltd. (RTT) exporting more than 12 tons of products, including cashew nuts, dried mango, jackfruit, banana, and taro chips.
The shipment, sent with support from the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) program, aims to strengthen export readiness and connect Cambodian agribusinesses with international markets. The launch event took place in Phnom Penh on August 14, attended by representatives from the Australian Embassy, Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce, Khmer Enterprise, and RTT.
Australian Ambassador Derek Yip said the partnership would help Cambodia expand into new areas to boost trade competitiveness and enter new markets, supporting the country's goal of graduating from Least Developed Country status. "We are committed to deepening our economic partnership with Cambodia and facilitating Cambodia's integration into regional and global value chains," he said.
Secretary of State for the Ministry of Commerce, Samheng Bora, thanked the Australian government for its support in facilitating the export. He said, "Thank you to the strong support of the Australian government for making the export of Cambodian dried fruit to Australia possible. Along with the dedication of our government, the private sector, and other key stakeholders, I am confident that our economic resilience will continue to endure and strengthen."
RTT Chairman Chhin Sophal said the shipment reflects Cambodia's capacity to meet international standards. "This is just the start, and more Cambodian products will soon find their way onto Australian shelves and beyond," he said.
A second, larger shipment is in preparation, with a broader product range and higher volumes. In 2024, trade between Cambodia and Australia totalled US$1.1 billion, with Cambodian exports accounting for over 70% of the total.
