An unexpected exotic fruit takes up residence in a French orchard of Lot-et-Garonne

In Villeneuve-sur-Lot (Lot-et-Garonne department), a producer has chosen to turn to asimina, also known as 'pawpaw', a little-known fruit from North America. His first harvest this year looks promising. Planted in 2019, the farm's 2,500 trees benefit from favorable conditions and have not yet been affected by any pests.

After 3 years of crop losses (pests, late frosts…), the stone fruit grower decided to diversify. He has also developed a nursery for his own needs to eventually build a complete supply chain. The fruit, which is certified organic, is sold at around €12/kg [14.07 USD/kg], quickly after being harvested, as it only holds well when ripe on the tree.
