Belgium: Delhaize ends use of plastic containers for strawberries

Delhaize is now selling Belgian strawberries in new cardboard packaging, replacing plastic. This switch to cardboard will result in a substantial reduction in plastic use: In 2025, Delhaize expects to save 17,000 kilograms of plastic. In the long term, as more growers adopt this packaging, savings could reach 52,000 kilograms per year, according to the retailer.

Thanks to a QR code on the packaging, customers can access an online information page on delhaize.be, where they can learn about the origin of the strawberries, sustainable growing methods, and the story of the local grower. The strawberries are grown exclusively for Delhaize by grower Royakkers.
