China supplied 77% of Kyrgyzstan’s potato imports in 2025

Kyrgyzstan significantly increased potato imports in the first seven months of 2025. According to the National Statistics Committee, the country imported 26,885.5 tonnes of potatoes worth USD 10.9 million, compared to just 508.4 tonnes worth USD 0.3 million in the same period of 2024.

China remained the dominant supplier, covering 77% of the total volume. Imports from China reached 20,631.8 tonnes (USD 7.3 million), a sharp rise from only 5.3 tonnes a year earlier.

Other suppliers included:

  • Pakistan: 5,110.3 tonnes (USD 2.5 million)
  • The Netherlands: 806.3 tonnes (USD 711,200)
  • Germany: 275.5 tonnes (USD 309,300)
  • Mongolia: 41.9 tonnes (USD 14,700)
  • Russia: 8.8 tonnes (USD 3,300)
  • Kazakhstan: 8.4 tonnes (USD 3,100)
  • Uzbekistan: 2.5 tonnes (USD 1,000)

In 2024, the import structure looked very different. China supplied only 5.3 tonnes, while Russia accounted for the bulk with 303.6 tonnes. No deliveries came from Pakistan and Mongolia.
