Kyrgyzstan triples onion and garlic imports from Uzbekistan in 2025

Kyrgyzstan saw a sharp increase in imports of onions and garlic in the first seven months of 2025. According to the National Statistics Committee, total imports reached 14,579.9 tonnes worth USD 4.0 million, compared to 4,062.1 tonnes, worth USD 1.07 million a year earlier.

Uzbekistan remained the dominant supplier, accounting for 80% of total imports. Deliveries grew 3.1 times to 11,706.3 tonnes (USD 2.8 million), compared to 3,729.1 tonnes in January–July 2024.

Other suppliers in 2025 included:

  • China: 1,448.0 tonnes (USD 922,700)
  • Tajikistan: 1,236.3 tonnes (USD 198,500)
  • Kazakhstan: 98.6 tonnes (USD 25,600)
  • Afghanistan: 90.7 tonnes (USD 31,700)

In the same period of 2024, China supplied 331.1 tonnes (USD 430,500), while Kazakhstan supplied 1.9 tonnes. No deliveries came from Tajikistan or Afghanistan.
