Polish watchdog says Jeronimo Martins' Polish unit misled customers
Poland's consumer watchdog said that the Polish unit of Portuguese retailer Jeronimo Martins, owner of the Biedronka supermarket chain, had misled customers over its pricing and promotional campaigns. The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) alleges that the company used confusing multi-buy promotions, calculated discounts from a regular price rather than the lowest price in the last 30 days as required by law, and displayed legally required price information in an unreadable font.

Slovenia: Mercator narrows losses in FY 2024
Slovenian retailer Mercator, owned by Fortenova Group, saw a slight revenue increase of 1.3%, to €1.32bln, in its financial year 2024, with retail trade revenue growing by 1.4%, to €1.13bln. After Polish misadventure, Spar pays R683mln to exit Switzerland
Spar will exit its operations in Switzerland in a "complicated" transaction that values that business at R1.025bln, but which will see it make a cash payment of R683mln. This outflow includes an injection of 19.5mln Swiss francs (R430mln) into the holding company of Spar Switzerland, SAH. This allowed a portion of the debt which had arisen from the acquisition of that business in 2016 to be repaid.

UK: M&S drops Tesco's Booker as wholesale partner
Britain's Marks & Spencer has ended its 15-year wholesale partnership with Tesco's Booker unit, dropping it as the primary supplier of third-party branded products for its food business, the retailer said.
