Azerbaijan increases lettuce imports by 25% while exports decline

From January to July 2025, Azerbaijan imported 912.9 tonnes of lettuce, valued at USD 651,300, according to the State Statistics Committee. This represents a 25% increase in volume and a 31% rise in value compared to the same period in 2024.

Iran remained the dominant supplier, delivering 912.3 tonnes valued at USD 646 thousand (+30% y/y). Smaller shipments also came from Spain (0.5 tonnes), the Netherlands (0.05 tonnes), Italy (0.35 tonnes), and the UAE (0.03 tonnes), none of which had supplied lettuce to Azerbaijan in the previous year.

During the same period, Azerbaijan exported 213.4 tonnes of lettuce, worth USD 118,100. This marked a 19% decrease in volume and a 38% drop in value compared to January–July 2024. Russia remained the main buyer, accounting for 204.4 tonnes worth USD 107,000 (down 23%). Belarus imported 9 tonnes valued at USD 11,100 (down 44%), marking Azerbaijan's first lettuce export to the country since official trade statistics began in 2011.
