New reporting function added to fruit ripening system

Interko has introduced a new reporting function for its automatic ripening control system, RipePilot. The feature was initially developed for a German fruit trader and enables ripeners to generate complete reports of the entire ripening cycle, enhancing monitoring and traceability of fruit.

Managing Director Chris Maat explained that the new tool allows customers to combine RipePilot's recorded data with manual visual and quality checks in one report. The addition responds to growing demand, particularly from supermarkets in Germany, for more detailed monitoring of ripening processes.

RipePilot, launched at the end of 2022, is a sensor-based programme designed to automate and trace the ripening process. It includes a fail-safe mode and has been adopted at over 60 ripening sites and in more than 300 ripening rooms globally. The system can be installed in Interko's Ultimo, Optimo, Axesso, and Mobilo rooms, either pre-fitted or retrofitted.

Alongside ripening technology, demand has also increased for pre-cooling systems. Interko has reported higher orders for modern post-harvest pre-cooling rooms, with recent projects installed in Colombia for an avocado packer and in Peru for a fresh produce supplier. According to Maat, modern systems use reversible fan designs that improve air flow, reduce fruit dehydration, and increase energy efficiency compared to older pre-cooling models.

The company has also completed projects across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, with solutions targeting bananas, avocados, mangoes, and processed fruit.

Interko will present its systems at Fruit Attraction 2025 in Madrid, Hall 10, 10A25, sharing a stand with Fresh Produce Instruments and Catalytic Generators, where its representatives will discuss ripening, pre-cooling, and de-greening technology with visitors.
