Kantar (Worldpanel by Numerator) has unveiled its ranking of France's favorite fruit and vegetables for the summer of 2025. What are the results?
Melons and tomatoes crowned champions of the summer
According to the Kantar data, the melon is the favorite fruit, with over 96,000 tons purchased. It is followed by bananas (61,000 tons), nectarines (46,000 tons), and apricots (45,000 tons).
Among vegetables, tomatoes dominate the rankings with over 116,000 tons consumed, confirming their status as a summer staple. They are ahead of cucumbers, which are popular in salads (43,000 tons) and zucchinis (34,000 tons).
Citrus fruit shunned, avocado star of the French
This summer, French consumers' purchases were mixed when it came to fruit and vegetables. While some varieties were very popular, others were neglected.
French consumers found summer and exotic fruits particularly appealing, but clearly lost interest in traditional citrus fruits (clementines, oranges) during the summer period.
As for vegetables, there are sharp contrasts even within the cabbage family, with a marked craze for red cabbage but a lack of interest in cauliflower and broccoli.
Clementines and mandarins were down by 33%, peaches by 17.8%, oranges by 17.1%, broccoli by 28.8% and cauliflower by 27.6%. On the other hand, avocados went up 38.2%, watermelons 37.9%, exotic fruit 6.7%, endives 37.7%, and red cabbage 23%.
