Ecuadorian banana exports to China experienced strong growth in 2025, solidifying China as a key destination for this tropical fruit. Between January and July, shipments increased by 37.67%, from 7.2 million boxes in 2024 to 9.9 million this year, according to data from the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (Acorbanec).
The increase is due to a combination of factors, including weather issues in other producing countries, the rebound in national production, and the opening of new logistics routes.
The reduction in supply in countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China itself, due to weather phenomena and phytosanitary issues, led to the Chinese market demanding more Ecuadorian bananas. A similar situation occurred in Panama, where, in addition to weather problems, labor conflicts in areas such as Bocas del Toro affected production.
In parallel, the Ecuadorian banana industry achieved higher yields on its plantations despite climate challenges, enabling it to increase production and ensure greater availability for export.
Additionally, the Guayaquil-Chancay-Shanghai maritime route, launched in February, is now operational. This corridor cut the transport time from over 40 days to just 27, strengthening the competitiveness of Ecuadorian bananas in Asia.
