Fresh Del Monte has entered a joint venture with Colombia-based Managro Group to strengthen its global supply chain for avocados and limes. The partnership includes the expansion of a packing house in Palmira, Valle del Cauca, which is expected to increase capacity by 600 percent for both crops combined.
Managro Fresh, part of Managro Group, operates one of the country's largest packing houses. Since its establishment in 2016, it has been active in export markets and was the first Colombian company to send Hass avocados to Saudi Arabia, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Kuwait, and Argentina. The company's operations focus on packing and exporting avocados and Tahiti limes.
According to Fresh Del Monte, the joint venture aligns with its long-term strategy of ensuring steady supply, consistent quality, and dependable delivery. Danny Dumas, Senior Vice President, North America Sales, Marketing & Product Management, said Colombia's climate provides almost year-round production, complementing other sourcing regions and reducing seasonal gaps.
Global demand continues to increase, with the lime market expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 2.5 percent and the avocado market at 5.9 percent. Dumas noted that the partnership gives priority access to Colombian production for customers in North America and Europe.
The initiative also includes sustainability and grower support programs. Fresh Del Monte and Managro apply labour, water use, biodiversity, and certification standards across their operations. Managro provides farmers with access to advanced genetics, modern irrigation systems, and post-harvest tools. Agronomists and technical staff work directly with growers through farm visits, demonstration farms, and training programs.
Community projects are also part of the partnership. Managro has worked with Microsoft and Croper.com to provide free internet in rural areas, supports education, and offers small growers access to export markets. The company generates rural employment and promotes inclusion in farming communities.
