In 2025, Citran will celebrate its 45th anniversary, which coincides with Fruit Attraction, making it a particularly special date for the company. "What began in 1980 with the efforts of four grower families quickly expanded to six, and now includes ten families that embody the company's identity as a national player in citrus cultivation and packaging."

Citran's history reflects the evolution of agriculture in Spain. From rudimentary, nearly animal-powered beginnings, it has progressed to modern, high-tech farming, with a focus on research, development, and sustainability. "The jump in recent years has been especially remarkable. Since 2015, the company has doubled its volume to 35 million kilos, with projections reaching 50 million in the near future."
In 2025, Citran will also complete a €2 million investment, which includes a state-of-the-art MAF Roda electronic sorter, new cold storage facilities, and enhanced logistical capacity, all of which will enable the company to handle oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, and blood oranges simultaneously.
Andalusia, the heart of citrus production
Another significant change in the company's history is related to the productive sector, as Andalusia has become the leading orange producer in the country, with over 3.2 million tons, surpassing the Valencia region, which produces around 2.8 million tons. "Valencia remains the leader in mandarins with nearly 2 million tons, but Andalusia, with 1.4 million, is steadily increasing. This production shift toward the south reflects a new dynamic driven by growers and investment funds."
"At Citran, quality and flavor are priorities. The goal has always been to deliver the best taste across all varieties, including conventional, organic, and biodynamic produce. Our citrus fruits are available in major supermarket chains, including Edeka, REWE, Lidl, Aldi, and others, as well as in the national market. Additionally, the company actively collaborates with IFAPA and other organizations to develop new varieties tailored to market demands. It also operates a two-hectare test field dedicated to pigments, table oranges, and mandarins. In addition, it employs regenerative agriculture techniques to enhance soil health and biodiversity—ensuring farm sustainability."
A special feature for its 45th-anniversary edition
Beyond technology and numbers, Citran's real strength lies in its people. The ten founding families, along with the field, warehouse, office, and sales teams, form what the Seville-based company calls the Citran Family.
"To mark its 45th anniversary, Citran aims to make a splash at Fruit Attraction with a special addition: Valerita. Valerita is more than a mascot; it symbolizes the company's roots, its ability to innovate, and the harmony of tradition and modernity."
"Its significance will be unveiled during the fair, encapsulating Citran's journey from diligent fieldwork to Agriculture 4.0, all while maintaining its unique identity. Visitors to the stand will have the chance to discover its meaning firsthand."
