Chinese honey pomelo harvest shows higher yields

The 2025 honey pomelo harvest is underway, with improvements reported in both yield and fruit quality. Prices are described as stable, creating favorable conditions for buyers and exporters this season.

Weather conditions in the main production areas have supported good fruit development. Industry sources note that the availability of smaller-sized honey pomelos, which match European market preferences, has increased this year. Combined with stable prices, the season is being regarded as relatively efficient for trade.

Europe remains the key export market for Chinese pomelos. Customs data show a rise in exports in July 2025. In the Netherlands, exports of grapefruits and pomelos grew by around 307% in volume compared with July 2024, while export value rose by 94% year-on-year.

Onedayone, a company active in Zhangzhou, has responded to the strong demand with branded honey pomelos. General Manager Lan Bilong explained that the company applies strict selection standards covering fruit size, appearance, sweetness, and peel thickness. Fruits meeting these criteria are packaged under the company's brand.

The company has also shifted from patterned decorative films to transparent wrapping film for packaging. This change allows for more direct inspection of fruit appearance and enables consumers to view the peel before purchase. According to the company, this approach supports more consistent quality control and reduces complaints related to cosmetic differences.

With export demand rising and domestic sales activity described as strong, the 2025 honey pomelo season is developing positively for growers and exporters.
