According to Ailimpo's forecast, Spain will produce 101,660 tons of grapefruit in the 2025/2026 season, which is 5% less than the 107,010 tons achieved in the 2024/2025 season (according to the provisional balance that accounts for exported, processed, and marketed fruit in the domestic market, as well as weight losses).

The Board of Directors of Ailimpo, with representatives from Asaja, COAG, UPA, cooperatives, exporters, and industry, has approved the forecast for the grapefruit harvest and stated that Spain will strengthen its position as a key supplier in the European market this season.

The Board also approved the lemon harvest forecast and outlined strategic plans for this new season, focusing on two goals: Strengthening the leadership of Spanish lemons with assurance of European origin and freshness, and ensuring profitability for all parts of the supply chain.

Ailimpo estimates Spain will produce 1,027,000 tons of lemons in the 2025/2026 season. That is 18% less than in the 2024/2025 season, when the country produced 1,254,000 tons, according to the provisional balance that accounts for the fruit exported, processed, and sold domestically, as well as weight losses and cold damage.

Although the total crop area remains nearly the same at around 50,000 hectares, the forecast predicts a 15% decrease in Fino and a 25% decline in Verna lemons due to the negative effects of climate change. These included problems during flowering and fruit setting, along with a significant increase in spring rainfall and higher-than-usual temperatures in June.
The efforts and work of the producers, supported by Ailimpo's Agefis Project for phytosanitary monitoring and funded by the Standard Extension, have improved pest control this season, resulting in better fruit quality and greater potential for commercial use in the fresh market.
