EU allocates €4.2 million in emergency aid to Latvian farmers

The European Commission has approved €4.2 million in emergency support for Latvian farmers to mitigate damage caused by this year's adverse weather, the Ministry of Agriculture announced. The aid must be distributed to farmers by April 30, 2026.

The ministry is preparing the payment conditions and will soon begin discussions with agricultural organizations on how the support will be provided and implemented in practice.

"This year's unfavorable weather, severe spring frosts and prolonged rains since May, completely or partially destroyed crops in many parts of Latvia, causing major losses for farmers and threatening the economic viability of agricultural enterprises," said Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze (Union of Greens and Farmers).
