Frost damages raspberry and blueberry plantations in Volyn, Ukraine

In Volyn, Ukraine, farmers tried to protect raspberry and blueberry bushes from severe frost on the night of September 25. They burned straw bales, created smoke screens, and covered some plants with agricultural fabric to reduce damage.

A video published by Bug shows the efforts. One farmer explained: "We're trying to save the field. The temperature is about 2°C. We smoked the whole area, burned bales, poured water, that's how we protect the plants. We also covered one section with agro-fabric. It's not cheap, but we'll see if it helps."

Despite these measures, by morning, it became clear that the crops suffered. "At 7:30 a.m., this is the scene in our field. The blueberries are completely frozen. We stayed overnight, burned straw, but they froze badly. I don't know the exact temperature. Under the agro-fabric, a crate is frozen solid and can't be moved. There's ice on the leaves, too, though less severe. The agro-fabric is 30 grams," he added.
