Peru snow peas extend season in Europe

Peruvian snow peas and sugar snaps are arriving earlier in Europe this year through a grower network that emphasizes sustainable production. Arrivals began by sea freight in April and will continue through the traditional September peak until the end of the year.

FairFruit, under the umbrella company Durabilis, has expanded its presence across 12 production regions in Peru, following years of testing and development. The company works with local producers using regenerative farming practices and has extended its season with 30% more early-season volume supplied to Europe compared with previous years.

"We are achieving top quality product across varying climate zones in Peru, ensuring satisfactory arrivals every time, and mitigating climate risks, such as El Niño," said Evert Wulfrank, CEO of Durabilis. He added that all deliveries comply with European Union pesticide residue standards through a system of continuous sampling, technical assistance, and training programmes.

Claudia Granados, Marketing & Business Development Manager, said the company collaborates with growers in Peru, Guatemala, and Ethiopia, as well as buyers in Europe, to support a more resilient food system. "Together with our growers in Peru, Guatemala, and Ethiopia, along with our buyers in Europe, we are cultivating a fairer, healthier, and sustainable world for all, supported by a resilient food system," she explained.

The company is preparing a sustainability management system upgrade to align with the upcoming EU CSRD framework. A sustainability report measuring the impact of its regenerative agriculture approach is scheduled for release next year.

FairFruit representatives will attend Fruit Attraction 2025 in Madrid, Spain, where meetings are planned on 30 September and 1 October.
