L'Ortolana has new projects in the pipeline

High-end products, strict standards, and Made in Italy to tackle foreign markets

"The 2025 watermelon season started off strong thanks to optimal weather conditions and solid demand. However, the inclement weather that occurred during the second half of the month - with lower temperatures and rain across Central and Northern Europe - negatively impacted consumption. The season ended in the red." These are the words of Antimo Filetti, L'Ortolana's head of sales and purchasing.

The company was officially established in 1991, but its origins date back to 1973 when Francesco Filetti founded the family business. Over the years, the second generation, Antimo and Alberto Filetti, has maintained strong ties to the local community while expanding into international markets.

Antimo Filetti, the head of purchasing and sales, is leading L'Ortolana toward new markets while ensuring that the brand remains synonymous with quality and reliability. Meanwhile, Alberto Filetti strictly oversees quality control, ensuring that every product meets the high standards that customers expect. Together, the two brothers enhance the company's Italian roots while expanding its reach into the future.

Among their new goals is expanding into the premium spring onion market, particularly in Switzerland, a country especially attentive to product quality and origin. The planned production, which includes sowing in July and transplanting in September, is destined for Germany, accounting for about 70-80% of the total. Equally important are exports of lettuce and escarole to Austria and Germany, which form the core of our fall and winter programs," Filetti explains.

As winter approaches, the company is preparing with renewed enthusiasm while remaining true to its commitments to quality and operational efficiency. Key goals include expanding the customer base and strengthening the focus on the HoReCa channel. The company will place additional emphasis on the Italian origin of its production, which is a distinctive factor in international markets.

While spring onions remain the flagship of its assortment, the company continues to diversify its winter portfolio with other vegetables. These are not only a range extension, but also a significant part of the offering, designed to meet the varied needs of international markets.

L'Ortolana is a well-organized company that combines logistics with strict quality control. The company guarantees traceability and applies integrated pest management in compliance with Italian regulations, which are among the most stringent in Europe.

During the 2024-2025 biennium, L'Ortolana completed a significant renovation of its plant to meet growing market demands and improve production efficiency. The company is evaluating further expansion to address new challenges.

All L'Ortolana products are certified under the GlobalGAP, GRASP, BRC Food, and IFS Food standards, which confirms the company's commitment to quality and safety. Customers can access specific analysis results, which further underscores the company's commitment to transparency.

L'Ortolana continues to work on combining quality standards, sustainability, and continuity in family-based production with the requirements of international markets.
