Between February and June 2025, the quantities of PGI new carrots from Ispica increased from around 4,000 tonnes in 2024 to 4,500 tonnes in 2025, i.e., an increase of around 14%," reports Massimo Pavan, president of Consorzio Tutela di Ispica.

"Quality was average, as both crispness and flavour were well within the expected range for this product. However, the percentage of waste increased due to the weather conditions, which did not facilitate cultivation, especially in certain phases."

From the point of view of packaging, 800-gram trays are the most popular format. "Depending on their customers, companies can also opt for 500-gram bags, 1000-gram bags, and even larger bags. But, in any case, the most popular format for big retail chains is 800-gram trays," Pavan points out.
The PGI mark is an excellent business card, especially in Italy, "while abroad it is not as well known and appreciated, so more information campaigns are needed, especially in our target markets such as Germany and northern Europe."
"The commercial year has not been very exciting. Carrot prices were not very brilliant: PGI-marked products did a little better thanks to their recognisability on the markets and guarantee of quality."
