Croatia builds €15.6m fruit distribution centre

Croatia's eastern Pozega-Slavonija county has commissioned the construction of a €15.6 million (US$18 million) fruit and vegetable warehouse and distribution centre to support local producers.

Hidroing has been contracted for construction works, Eptisa Adria will oversee supervision, and Forel Projekt will act as project manager, according to a press release from the county authorities. Of the total project cost, €10 million will be provided through the European Union-sponsored national plan for recovery and resilience.

The facility will have a planned storage capacity of 3,000 tons. It will include several types of chambers, such as ultra-low oxygen chambers for fresh fruit and minus-temperature chambers for frozen fruit. The centre will also be equipped with sorting and packaging lines, as well as handling and loading zones with multiple loading ramps. All operations are planned to be digitalised.

The distribution centre will be located in the northern part of the town of Pozega, where the local authorities intend to establish a business zone.
