Mexican avocados steady while Peruvuan asparagus movement declines

Asparagus, avocado, blueberry, cucumber, and tomato movement continues across U.S. entry points with mixed price and volume trends. Trading is generally slow to moderate, with prices showing declines in several categories.

Asparagus
Movement from Mexico through Arizona, California, and Texas is expected to remain steady. Trading was slow early and fairly slow late. Prices of large items are lower, while others are mostly unchanged. Eleven-pound cartons of bunched green large are mostly $24.75, and standard are mostly $26.75–27.75. From Peru, imports through Southern California are expected to decrease. Trading is fairly slow, with large slightly lower, small unchanged, and others lower. Eleven-pound cartons of bunched green jumbo are mostly $38.75–40.75, extra-large $34.50–36.75, large $28.75–31.75, standard $25.75, and small $22.75–24.75.

Avocado
Movement from Mexico crossings through Texas is expected to remain steady. Trading was moderate early, fairly slow late. Prices of conventional 40s and 60s are unchanged; others are lower. Hass cartons two-layer 32s are mostly $46.25–48.25, 36s $36.25–37.25, 40s $26.25–28.25, 48s $23.25–24.25, 60s $22.25–24.25, 70s $22.25–23.25, and 84s $22.25–23.25. Organic 48s are $38.25–40.25, 60s $37.25–40.25, and 70s $35.25–38.25. From California's South District, movement is expected to decrease.

Blueberry
Movement from Peru imports through Miami, Philadelphia, and New York is expected to increase. There are too few spot market sales to establish a market, with most shipments from prior bookings or commitments. Quality is generally good. Imports from Chile through Philadelphia are also expected to increase, though supplies are too limited to establish a market. The first F.O.B. report is expected the week of September 28. Mexican crossings through Arizona, California, and Texas are set to increase seasonally.

Cucumber
Mexican crossings through Texas are expected to decrease slightly. Trading was moderate early, fairly slow late. Prices are much lower. One 1/9-bushel cartons of medium are mostly $12.95–14.95, fair quality $7.95–8.95, ordinary $6.95–8.95, and large $14.95–15.95. Through Otay Mesa, California, movement is expected to increase, with medium at $14.00–17.00, fair $10.00–12.00, ordinary $7.00–8.00, and large $15.00–16.00. Nogales, Arizona, crossings are expected to increase seasonally, though supplies are insufficient to establish a market.

Tomato
Movement from Mexico crossings through Texas is expected to decrease slightly. Trading was moderate early, fairly slow late. Prices are slightly lower. Vine Ripes cartons two-layer 4x4–4x5s are mostly $10.95–11.95, and 5x5–5x6s $9.95–10.95. Loose 25-pound cartons 4x4–4x5s are mostly $11.95–12.95, and 5x5–5x6s $10.95–11.95. In California's Central District, movement is expected to increase slightly. Loose Mature Greens extra-large are $10.35–11.35, large $11.35–12.35, and medium $8.35–9.35.
