"Fig season has also been successful"

Stable supply expected for Turkish pomegranate season

After working in the fresh produce industry for many years, it was time to launch his very own company and start exporting fruits straight away, says Yigit Gokyigit, founder of Turkish fresh produce exporter: "We founded G Agro this year and started exporting within just a few months. This fast start was possible thanks to our prior experience in the fresh produce industry, strong grower relations, and well-established contacts with major supermarket chains and traders worldwide. Our knowledge of quality requirements, certification processes, and logistics partners enabled us to move quickly and effectively. Thanks to the successful collaborations we have built with our customers over many years, they kindly placed their trust in us and happily continued with G Agro from the very beginning."

The Turkish exporter has found entries in several European markets, even supplying the supermarkets directly, Gokyigit explains. "We currently export to several European countries, mainly France and Germany. These markets were our focus because of their strong retail presence, appreciation for Turkish fresh fruit, and the long-term relationships we have built with importers and retailers in the region."

After a positive fig season, Gokyigit is now preparing for the upcoming pomegranate season: "This year, we started with fresh figs. Despite market challenges, such as record-high grower prices and lower volumes compared to previous years, the season performed well for us, and we successfully entered several countries through leading European retailers. Our next major season is pomegranates, which is starting shortly. We expect a stable supply with good quality, and we are optimistic about meeting strong demand from European and Pacific Asian buyers."

Despite a lower overall yield, Gokyigit is confident he'll have no issues meeting the requirements of his European clients. "This season, Turkish pomegranates are expected to have a slightly lower yield compared to last year due to climatic conditions. However, fruit quality is promising, with good sizing and color. We believe this season, G Agro will still offer reliable availability, even though the overall crop is smaller than in previous years. We're confident in supplying our business partners with high-quality pomegranates that will meet their demand."

Gokyigit will present his new company at the exhibition that takes place next week: "I will be in Madrid for Fruit Attraction. My main goals are to strengthen existing partnerships, present the fruits of G Agro, such as figs, pomegranates, and cherries, all produced according to EU pesticide regulations, and explore new opportunities with retailers and distributors across Europe. You can find us at the Turkish Exporters Association's stand, Hall 14, Stand C07," he concludes.
