Mangoes and more in the spotlight in Anaheim

Splendid by Porvenir has just ended its Keitt Kong mango production in Northern Sinaloa, which officially draws the Mexican mango season to a close. The company is now moving to off-shore mangoes from Brazil, Ecuador and Peru through January, when the highest volume of mangoes imported into the U.S. from Mexico–67 percent–starts up again. "Mexico continues to be the backbone of the U.S. mango market, consistently delivering both volume and premium quality - season after season," says Daniel Ibarra, president of Splendid.

At this time, and with an eye on the upcoming IFPA show, the company will begin to promote its winter vegetable line in a bigger way and the sales staff looks forward to reviewing programs with customers. Although the company maintains its year-round supply of mangoes and sweet corn, it pivots throughout the year to accommodate the seasonality/availability of the two crops.

Green beans, bell peppers, and cucumbers will all be available this fall through the company, along with the off-shore mango program. Splendid is now planting yellow and bicolor corn for harvest in early spring, January-March, when the crop will be ready to ship. At that time, corn production shifts to the central Mexico region, all of which makes the company a year-round grower-shipper of sweet corn.

Splendid will display its mainstay items at the show, including mangoes, sweet corn, and other winter vegetable items, along with a few citrus products.

Enhanced exposure and visibility are two key goals for the company so it hopes to connect with current and potentially new customers at the show. "IFPA is an excellent public relations event for all exhibiting companies. We expect to take full advantage of this opportunity," says Cindy Schwing, VP of marketing.

The company will be located in the Texas Town Pavilion, booth #1953, and interested attendees can stop by and say hello.
