A shipment of peppers from Albania was blocked by Slovenian authorities after testing revealed pesticide residues exceeding legal limits. The case was classified as an "alert" under the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
The peppers were stopped on September 5 following laboratory analyses that showed residues of acetamiprid, formetanate, and flonicamide above permitted thresholds. Authorities stated that the substances pose a risk to consumer health and advised against consumption. The specific quantity of peppers blocked has not been disclosed.
Albania's National Food Authority (AKU) has not yet responded to the incident.
This case follows a similar occurrence reported only days earlier, when Slovenian authorities withdrew another shipment of Albanian hot red peppers from the market due to pesticide residues well above the permitted levels.
The repeated detections highlight ongoing monitoring of pesticide residues in imported produce and potential consequences for exporters not meeting food safety standards.
