The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall warning for pistachio raw kernels due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The affected product, sold without a brand name, was available in bulk self-serve format at Kim Natural Food, 219 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. The recall covers products sold between September 11 and September 19, 2025. No UPC codes are associated with the recall.
According to the CFIA, this recall is linked to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak investigation. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating human illnesses potentially connected to the case.
Consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled pistachio raw kernels. Recalled products should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase. The agency noted that food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. In some cases, long-term complications such as severe arthritis may occur. Vulnerable groups, including young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk of serious infection.
The CFIA stated: "If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider."
The agency is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to further recalls. It is also verifying that the industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
This recall has been classified as a Class 2 food recall warning under CFIA protocols. The official identification number for the case is RA-78153, with CFIA ID 16787. The original notice was published on September 27, 2025.
Further information, including related recall notifications and public health updates, is available through the CFIA's Food Safety Investigation page and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
