The recall, announced on September 16, 2025, applies to 3.5-ounce (99g) pouches sold primarily through Walgreens and some independent stores in the U.S. South region. Most sales occurred between September and December 2024. No other large grocery chains carried the affected lot, and no other Sprout Organics products are part of this recall.
The affected product is Sprout Organics Sweet Potato, Apple, and Spinach in a 3.5-ounce pouch. It carries the lot code 4212 and has an expiration date of October 29, 2025.
Consumers who purchased the product are advised to return it to the point of sale for a full refund. The lot code and expiration date are printed on the bottom strip on the back of the pouch.
According to the company, no illnesses have been reported to date. The recall is being conducted following routine sampling that detected elevated levels of lead.
Lead exposure, even at low levels, may increase blood lead levels. Health effects vary depending on the amount and duration of exposure, as well as factors such as age and body weight. In children, long-term exposure can affect development and learning.
