Moldova is accelerating the modernization of its agriculture, directing investments into intensive and super-intensive orchards and vineyards. These technologies provide higher and more uniform yields, reduce production costs, and improve access to foreign markets.
Between 2022 and 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture allocated over 253 million lei (€13.2 million) from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development to support the replacement of old plantations with new, modern ones. The funds are managed through the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA).
According to the ministry, up to 90% of the harvest from super-intensive apple orchards meets premium quality standards, almost twice as much as from traditional orchards. Profitability in modern plantations is also more than double.
Officials emphasize that these investments not only improve farmers' competitiveness but also help align Moldova with EU market requirements, creating new export opportunities.
